Mardi Gras Box by Shirley Marie Dees |
|
| The Mardi Gras Box is an ideal coffee table or bench for extra seating with storage inside. With the support of 6" high legs, its dimensions are a total of 19" high, 27.75" wide, and 13" deep. The main images on the front and backs of the box are borrowed from artist Kay Nielson (c. 1900) and Bakst on the side. There is a spirit of fantasy in these images, and each is accompanied by a reference to the French word, "noir" or "noire", meaning black or dark, beginning with Pinot Noir on the top of the box. Other references are to Film Noir, Bete Noire, Fete Noire, and Soiree Noire. (These words are not properly accented here.) The intense purple metallic of the box adds to its Mardi Gras tone. |
